Frequently Asked Questions
- What types of copper finishes are available?
Our Standard finish that we recommend for all of our fixtures is antique copper. The precise oxidation creates a hue similar to an old penny. This even oxidation skips the first twenty years of the copper aging process, which allows the copper to age gracefully with your home or business. There are exceptions available upon request.
- Are Bevolo fixtures safe?
All of Bevolo’s fixtures are ETL approved. ETL certification, originally offered by the Edison Illuminating Companies, has been conducting performance and reliability tests since 1896. For more information, visit www.etl.com. This certification satisfies almost all local codes. For more information about codes, contact a local installation professional.
- How do I clean/care for my Bevolo fixture?
There is virtually no maintenance necessary, because our fixtures are hand crafted to last a lifetime. On occasion, the glass may need to be cleaned after the panes are carefully removed.
- Why won’t my gas fixture stay lit?
Bevolo lanterns are made to not blow out, but under few extreme circumstances the flame may not stay lit.
A. Make certain that the glass panes have not been cracked or pushed out of place. If the glass is not flush up against the leg of the light it can lead to too much air flow in the light.
B. If the flame blows out still, then place copper pennies over two of the holes. This will reduce the air flow in the light, and should reduce the chances of the light blowing out.
C. The gas line may also need to be checked by a plumber.
D. Finally, if the light is still giving you problems, please give our service department a call and we will do whatever we can to fix the situation.
- What makes hand- riveted fixtures outlast those that are soldered?
Fixtures with soldered joints will eventually separate from the heat of the flame. Hand-riveted fixtures are extremely durable and will not fall apart even after the fixture has been heated.
- How many inches must a fixture hang from a ceiling?
At least 12” clearance above a hanging gas light. However, local code will prevail.
- What is the required code from the flame to the combustible wall?
The National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z2231.1 (NFPA54) requires that there must be at least 6” distance from the flame to the wall. Local code will be the final determinate.
- How high should the flame be?
We recommend that our flames should be 1.5 to 2 inches. By keeping it at this height it allows the flame to flow brightly without creating excessive heat in the lamp.
- How many BTU’s does each fixture use?
Each fixture uses approximately 2,200 BTU’s.
- May I use propane for my gas fixtures?
Yes, Bevolo fixtures offer a different burner assembly specifically designed to accommodate propane gas. These use approximately 3,000 BTU’s.
- What is the standard size for the post mount attachment?
The standard post mount diameter is three inches. We can do custom sizing if necessary.
- What is the size of the standard back plate?
The standard back plate is five inches by five inches. This holds true for many, but not all of our brackets. For specific details please contact our sales office.
